What the numbers actually mean

Instagram analytics guides, in plain terms: what the platforms will and won't tell you, and how to read a metric before you put it in front of a client.

Instagram analytics are the counts Meta reports about an account: reach, views, saves, shares, likes, comments and follower change, plus the rates made by dividing one by another. Which counts exist depends on whether you manage the account, and every rate depends on what it was divided by.

14 guides in 4 sections. Each one opens with its answer, so you can stop reading once you have it. All 14 are about Instagram; Facebook and Threads metrics are not covered yet. Updated 21 September 2026.

When two numbers disagree
